Google glasses haven’t been launched, yet
already have a grave competitor. The “Augmented Vision” glasses by the BMW
group shares the same concept of mixing the virtual world with reality to
combine the best of both, in this case particularly the safety in traffic, as
the project is connected to the MINI car. It first has been tested in Shanghai
and is equipped with 2 cameras on the front to provide three dimensional
vision, as well as high-definition displays. Once you have adapted the glasses
to your vision, you can admire some incredible features. For example, it scans
an advertisement of a restaurant and asks if you would like to travel there,
then automatically shows you the way to your destination. It helps you finding
a parking spot or even lets you see “through” the car, thanks to cameras on the
outer part of the car. This particular feature makes you able to see people you
wouldn’t normally see, which is a huge improvement concerning car safety. There
are still questions about data safety and if the glasses could possibly
distract the driver from traffic. “Augmented Vision” hasn’t been launched yet
and still is in testing stage, but we see a lot of potential for the future.
