BREAKING NEWS!
New Google Glass will arrive soon! Again?
And those will even be cheaper, have longer battery life, improved sound quality, a better display and, as the best of them all, somehow combined with the stylish types of eyewear Rayban and Oakly produce.[1]
Yes, Google still believes in its controversial futuristic eyewear because “the technology is too important to scrap” Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt says.[2] After the phasing out of Google Glass in January Google started a partnership with the Italian eye wear maker Luxottica and they are now in preparation of Google Glass Version 2, which will get on the market soon, and even thinking about Google Glass Version 3!
Interestingly Luxottica is also going to cooperate with Intel and their first product is going to be released between February and March 2016.[3]
What do you think? Would you buy one of the new Google Glass?
We are really curious about upcoming developments in this sector and will keep you updated.

The main reasons for the failure of Google Glass

The project arrived in 2012 with great fanfare, but after the announcement and the distribution of 1500 test glasses a couple of months later, Google still didn’t revile an actual date from which on the product can be purchased by everyone. At this time, Google Glass was just available for early adopters and celebrities who had to test and advertise the product. Another issue was the way of informing the customers about the product

The advertisement for the product was fine, but it wasn’t published and spread through the media like a normal ad. If you wanted to know more about the cause or the usage of the product you had to follow Google on several social media platforms to watch/read something about it. That’s why the product was barely known by just a few people around the world and dragged the main attention through Blogs or Newspapers. Google should have spent more time and money in explaining the product and using paid media to inform their possible customers to use the upcoming hype about it. But instead they were waiting for too long with the final release and as the time passed by the possible customers kept losing their interest which lead to Googles action of withdrawing Google Glass from the market.

A short example of what went wrong in the advertisement

This is the video was shown at the first announcement of Google Glass to find investors and retailers. Many concept ideas were shown in the video to point out the possible networking of Google Glass with different services to make life easier.

This is the video published to the public. The video shows a lot for the eyes but very less about the actual functions of the product compared to the first video.

Augmented Vision

Google glasses haven’t been launched, yet already have a grave competitor. The “Augmented Vision” glasses by the BMW group shares the same concept of mixing the virtual world with reality to combine the best of both, in this case particularly the safety in traffic, as the project is connected to the MINI car. It first has been tested in Shanghai and is equipped with 2 cameras on the front to provide three dimensional vision, as well as high-definition displays. Once you have adapted the glasses to your vision, you can admire some incredible features. For example, it scans an advertisement of a restaurant and asks if you would like to travel there, then automatically shows you the way to your destination. It helps you finding a parking spot or even lets you see “through” the car, thanks to cameras on the outer part of the car. This particular feature makes you able to see people you wouldn’t normally see, which is a huge improvement concerning car safety. There are still questions about data safety and if the glasses could possibly distract the driver from traffic. “Augmented Vision” hasn’t been launched yet and still is in testing stage, but we see a lot of potential for the future.

Today we met at Café Emaille for brainstorming and group-building. We informed each other about how we want to see our blog evolving. We talked about different topics for example the formal structure of our blog, if we want to include pictures or not, comparison with results from different groups of other courses, if and how we are going to change our blog design/layout. Furthermore we discussed about an article named “Glass got 'too much attention,' says Astro Teller (scientist, expertise intelligent technology) at SXSW (South by Southwest Festival)"[1]. This article covers the problem Google missed in their marketing program of Google Glass. When Google introduced their product on the market people thought it was the final product, while Google did an informal “beta test” on the public. Google allowed attention on the product before it was ready to face it! As the article proceeds Google learned from their mistakes. At the moment they are inventing a self driving car for with they do an enormous amount of pre-tests, even in the streets of California, before launching it.
Additionally we informed the group about the technical set up of Google Glass and some future possibilities like contact lens computers.

Hello world
As a matter of fact googles wearable future device the google glass was removed from the market and is now back in googles innovation lab. But the story of google glass isn’t over, the idea of a computer in front of your eyes which could change the world we know by connecting the digital and the real world even further left its marks. Google Glass made the marketing departments of many companies thinking. How would it be if billboards would show personalized advertising or if advertising would use gamification methods? The technology of Google Glass will make it possible for local restaurants to look at a restaurant and check out their rankings, view their menu, find out if there is seating, and maybe even get a coupon code while standing in front of it. The Glashion App which was already programmed for the google glass scans clothing and will find possible matches on the internet, so basically everything you see which is on sale could be scanned and ordered. By now BMW and MINI presented their own so called augmented reality glass which allows you to merge with your car. You can use all parking assist sensors and cameras without turning your head because they show their information in front of your eyes. You can also use a new innovative way to get the information from your GPS system or interesting tourism information without losing the road ahead out of your sight. These are just examples of how google glass introduced a new way of combining the digital and real world.
This blog will feature how Google Glass could have changed the way of marketing in the future and why its own marketing campaign wasn’t as successful as expected.

But we weill see what the future predicts, we will see through future marketing.
